Here's what fascinates me:
The innumerable ways in which the human mind can get/be messed up. I recently read the "real story" behind the "Vampire Clan murders," for example. Also, things like Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder), etc. In particular, I am amazed at the different psychological reactions in people who have traumatic childhoods, and why some turn out to be serial killers and others don't, etc.)
Unusual theories. I find myself reading in fascination when I encounter things like people's opinions on why Atlantis is in a certain place, and how they arrived at their conclusion, polar shift theories, etc. I recently read an article theorizing that an ancient Indian (as in India) race travelled the globe, and that there is evidence of this on at least 6 continents.
Things under a microscope. I find it fascinating that so many tiny little things exist and thrive in the world. Having worked as a vet tech, my boss was also much amused when I saw dolphins and om's and such in the matter under the microscope.
Ancient history, especially in social and religious terms, and by ancient, I mean pre-christian. I am positively fascinated by the religions, laws, etc. of the ancient civilizations. For example, I read once that in Ancient Egypt, it was dictated by law, how much inheritance each child was allowed, as well as that the oldest child got to choose their share first, and it went on down the line by age. Even more interesting, if egyptian wives husbands wanted their wives to inherit more, they could adopt their wives, thus allowing two shares of the inheritance: one as wife, and one as oldest child (assuming there were no older children from a previous marriage)
So, what fascinates you?

LOL! Wow! Girl. You have got a brilliant mind. I have to say that I, too, am fascinated by all those things. Some of them, I didn't know fascinated me until I read them on your post though. Tee hee. I myself am also fascinated by many things. Surely I wouldn't even be able to recall a scratch on the surface though. Here's a good place to start. I'm fascinated with etymology. That is studying for the root origins of words. Sometimes it's simple. Sometimes all I can do is wonder. For example. . What's the root for fascinate? Perhaps face, something that one would pay attention to. Who can say. I'm incredibly fascinated with Chemistry. Not on the atomic level. Deeper than that. How d**n cool is it that measures of energy can be measured between chemical reactions. How about this. This whole "Law of Consevation of Energy". Energy and matter, can neither be created nor destroyed. But they can turn into each other. Has anyone read "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. There are a couple of scientists in there creating matter with a particle accelerator and it describes them to be making anti-matter with this machine. Thats where the electrons make up the nucleus and the protons fly around the outside. How fuckin cool is that! oo. . . I've been ramblin. Better leave it here for now. lol

Well, I don't know how brilliant I am... I tend to think of myself more as "curious." I appreciate the complement though! Etymology is another one, along with the evolution of language in general. For example, although the english language contains many latin words and phrases, the english language itself is of germanic origin. One of my favorite websites, btw, is Merriam-Webster Online because most of the definitions include the etymology of the word(s). I can't say it's the best site for it, I just don't know of any others. Main Entry: fas·ci·nate Pronunciation: 'fa-s&n-"At Function: verb Inflected Form(s): fas·ci·nat·ed; fas·ci·nat·ing /'fas-"nA-ti[ng], 'fa-s&n-"A-/ Etymology: Latin fascinatus, past participle of fascinare, from fascinum evil spell
Chemistry and Physics are fascinating as well, but I haven't read nearly as much on those subjects. I never took either subject. If you know of any good websites where I could learn more, I'd be grateful if you shared.

This may sound stupid compared to yours but as an amatuer ghost hunter I've always wondered (ok bothered )but why is it every time there is a story involving a deceased woman they're always in white. You know the lady in white this the lady in white that? Seriously though I'm facinated by the number of people that get their vehicles stuck in flood waters.Every year we see on the news where someone thought they could get across or it didnt look that deep. One would think people would learn, not likely cause the very next flood season there will be another batch of folks who think their Toyota will magical become a bass boat :PPEACE OUT

Well, there is no limit to human stupidity (I believe Einstein said something about that), and yeah I am also amazed at how many iditots there are in the world, and have also wondered why it is that when the road is covered with running water, what makes someone decided to find out whether or not their car can swim. Maybe it's that same "it'll never happen to me" thing that so many people have in their heads? As for the Lady in White question... well, good question. Not all dead woman ghosts are seen wearing white, but I suppose you don't hear about the "Lady in a yellow sundress" because it doesn't sound as eerie? Just a guess. Good to see you back and posting, btw!

First of all, I'm so d**n nervous about writing here. So, here is what fascinates me. I have an extreme phobia of people in general. Large crowds, small crowds of strangers. Yet, I love people and enjoy feeling the energy and emotions coming from them. Especially if they are passionate about life, which I can tell right off the bat. Passionate romantic people tend to gravitate toward me and I toward them. Why is this? Does anyone have an answer for me? Why is it I'm afraid of crowds, yet love parties, and generally speaking, having fun! This is the one thing in my life that has tormented me. Almost like two different sides to me being pulled in opposite directions. One saying, "No, you're scared, don't do that, don't go there". The other saying, "This is going to be a riot, so much fun and so fascinating". I would rather listen to the one telling me to GO GO GO! Yet, I feel paralyzed a majority of the time. Anyone have any ideas that could help me? I'd love to hear from you! ;D

Well, I haven't really experienced ambivalence in that subject, but when I do, I usually try to determine what to do based on two criteria: 1) Which is more rational? 2) If there are ethical issues involved, which is the RIGHT thing to do? That usually works for me. If you are comfortable with psychologists, etc, you may want to consider getting yourself evaluated for Social Anxiety Disorder. If you have it, a good psychologist/therapist should be able to help, and if nothing else helps, or it gets worse, there are also supposed to be medications now to help with it. This website might also help: www.socialphobia.org/

Glad to see folks posting!
On the question of the 'lady in white' bit, I don't think it's necessarily that they were actually wearing white, as that ghost tend to be monochrome... meaning that any light ccolor will look white or almost so. Another possibility is that they commonly show up in their funeral dress, and so most of the time they would be in white.
On the social question, I think Molly may be on to something there... you may suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder.
Part of it could also be, if you psi-feed, you are torn between needing the nergy, and feeling bad about 'stealing' it from others.

"Lady in a Yellow Sundress" . . . :: snickers :: I love it
I actually did see a ghost wearing a blue bonnet and green apron one time. Just as brightly vivid as you'd want. This was several years ago at a local graveyard back in Utah (where I used to live.)
And Viola, luv . . . we've talked about this, too. I believe Tanna may be right on both counts. What you need to do is venture into a crowd, more often, but little by little . . . and see if it helps.
I haven't met a vamp yet that didn't have SOME sort of crowd problem, to one degree or another.

Hey! I don't have any problem with crowds... as long as I avoid them, I do just fine!

Kinda hard to avoid them ALL the time when you're a pure psy-vamp. (Not me, but other people I know.)

True enough, I suppose. *scratches head* Ya know, suddenly, I'm not so jealous of those psi folks...
Ah, well, we each have our own mix of blessings and curses.
There is also one thing that fascinates me big time that I forgot to add to the list: moonlight sparkling on lakes and oceans. I can watch the light dance on the water for hours...

I think that's 'mesmerizes', not 'fascinates'. ::giggles:: And I can sympathize completely!
